Dominick Navarra is an active artist living and working in New Orleans. As an Independence, Louisiana native, he revolves around the themes of the local flora and fauna of southern Louisiana. His work reflects the colors, sounds, and smells he encounters everyday in New Orleans. He creates with wood and metal, trying to utilize as many found materials as possible. He sees value in repurposing objects and breathing new life into the discarded pieces.
Dominick’s work is a playful kaleidoscope that manifests as: toys, sculptures, and paintings. He is deeply influenced by folk art, comic books, animation, and all things whimsical. He strives to spread a little bit of joy with each piece he creates.
Class Description
In his classes, Dominick uses plain paper for the activities. He wants the kids to know that they can make really cool things with simple items like paper that they find at home and school. Finger puppets and zines tend to be favorites, while some light origami and paper airplanes among others are included. Depending on the dates, there will be holiday or specialty themed activities as well.
